The project of the Fourth National Action Programme for Environmental Protection of Georgia for 2022–2026 was coordinated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Sweden, in accordance with the rule of "development, monitoring, and evaluation of policy documents" approved by the Resolution of the Government of Georgia dated December 20, 2019, N629
The key strategic document for Georgia in the area of environmental and natural resource conservation is the National Environmental Action Programme, which outlines the long-term strategic priorities for the area and the appropriate action plan. The legislation of Georgia and the commitments made by the nation to international obligations govern the development of the national programme of environmental protection initiatives.
In particular, the Law of Georgia "On Environmental Protection" requires the development and implementation of a national programme of environmental protection actions for a regular, five-year period. Also, in accordance with Article 304 of the Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union, cooperation, among other things, provides for the periodic development, updating, and approval of the national programme of environmental protection actions in accordance with Georgia's legislation.
