E-learning course on Environmental Democracy

With UKAID support, the WFD in cooperation with the Environmental Information and Education Centre has developed the first Georgian-language e-learning course on Environmental Democracy.

The first module “The essence of environmental democracy, environmental rights and responsibilities” provides a wide range of information on environmental rights and responsibilities, existing opportunities and challenges, international agreements, and the role of civic participation in environmental protection activities. The module was created for representatives of local self-governments of Georgia, citizens, civil society organizations, young people and the interested public. The purpose of the course is to inform and raise awareness about environmental democracy and environmental human rights.

The second module “Powers of local governments and environmental democracy” aims to raise awareness, identify issues, and suggest best practices and solutions on environmental democracy for local self-government. The module covers the following topics: the concept of local self-government, legal grounds and constitutional guarantees for exercising local self-government, public participation and transparency, oversight tools and mechanisms and etc. This module is intended for local self-government representatives of Georgia, civil society organizations, youths and the interested public in general.
